November 2008 - Mrs. Maryann Regusa - Class of 1952

Multi-Generational Learning: Touching Hearts & Souls at St. Joseph School

"The best feeling anyone can have is to know they made a difference in a child's life", according to Mrs. Maryann Ragusa, a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic School in 1952.

Back in the day, Mrs. Ragusa was known as the class clown and was renown for her athletic abilities. Today, she continues to share her talents as a math tutor.

"I love it when it finally clicks in their heads and you know they got it, and I was there to help!" Mrs. Ragusa finds daily inspiration and renewed motivation from the students themselves. Her students find her generosity and sweet-natured ways equally inspiring and even contagious.

Mrs. Ragusa's fondest childhood memories of St. Joseph School are the religious traditions, the kindness of the children, and the way that the school community helped keep her out of trouble. Her return to the school almost 50 years later has convinced her that the best traditions of St. Joseph School indeed live on.

Mrs. Ragusa retired from IDOC as the Assistant to the Records Office Supervisor in 1991. When her husband passed away in 2004, Mrs. Ragusa offered her time and talent to the school. This school year will mark her 5th year of service as a weekly math tutor.

"I honestly believe that I have received more from the children I am helping than they have received from me," maintains Mrs. Ragusa. However, her grateful Fourth Graders would beg to differ!
