Living our Lent

“Seek the Lord while he may be found…
For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways, says the Lord.”
(Isaiah 55: 6-8)

Every year Lent gives us a spiritual “wake up call.” Whether we have wandered and drifted, or persevered and grown in the past year, the Church calls us to ask ourselves a number of essential questions:

-What if my life is not all about me?!

-What changes do I need to make so that I can better recognize the relationship with God which sustains me every moment of every day?

-How can I make it a habit to put the needs of others before my own?

-How can I build time for silent contemplation, for sitting and listening, even in this noisy post-modern world of ours?

Or, to paraphrase John the Baptist, how can I say “He must increase and I must decrease”?!

God has called each of us to this moment—together on the same team—so that we might help each other become the people He needs us to be. Another way to think of it is that we are all part of a “Theo-drama”: Christ is the protagonist and the main actor in the drama, and each of us is called to play some supporting role each day. The more we are able to set aside our own thoughts and to “put on the mind of Christ,” the better we will help the other supporting actors and actresses play the role He needs them to play.

As we journey these 40 days together, let’s continue to ponder the Lord’s ways, to pray for one another, and to practice seeking the Lord each day!

Peace,
Mr. Spesia

March PreView

Throughout the turbulent times we’ve experienced these past few weeks, I’ve had an even greater appreciation for the faculty & staff of St. Joseph School. With the utmost professionalism, they have continued our mission to educate each of your children—without brining in any inappropriate emotion or idle speculation about the announced changes for next year. As you would hope, we are committed to helping the students have as great a spring semester as possible.

Gratitude Attitude
Thanks go out to Sue Barello, our stellar 2nd Grade instructor, for preparing our students to receive their First Reconciliation. Please keep our 2nd Graders in your prayers as they move closer to their First Holy Communion.
Thanks, also, to Dan Todorovich and Terri Crotty for all of their efforts on our Msgr. Butala Basketball Tournament!

“Grand-persons” Day
On Friday the 19th, the Feast of St. Joseph, our most powerful patron, the PTO will sponsor a “special persons” luncheon at St. Joseph Park. We will begin school as usual at 8:15, celebrate a special 10:00 Mass, and then invite family members to help transport their students to the Park, where we will carry on the celebration. More information will be forthcoming.

Miscellaneous Matters
Special Dress Days: Monday the 8th will be a Spirit Day for all those students who donate $1.00 to the March of Dimes; Monday the 22nd will be a Dress-Down Day for all students, just for being great kids
